Well the day is finally here, Owen’s first day of kindergarten, first day of school.
Sean and I took the day off work so that we would be able to take Owen to school and pick him up and I am so very glad we did. Owen was very excited but like his Mom, he holds the excitement in and just smiles big and gets really quiet.
Owen with Mom and Dad in front of the new big school. Lots of cars in the parking lot, bikes in the bike racks and kids standing around.
Going around to the kindergarten doors, we joined all the other kids and their parents while we waited for the bell to ring for the start of class. Owen’s teacher was there to help calm any nerves and explain what that loud noise was. We headed inside and saw the frog with Owen’s name – jacket and shoes here please. Then onto the kindergarten classroom where more hooks were and found Owen’s name again; this time his backpack and snack bag hung here. Then he headed for the play-dough table with all the other kids….while the parents lingered – not sure what to do next, should I leave, should I stay?
I was too proud of Owen, sitting down and starting to work with the play-dough. A little quiet when one other child asked his name but smiling and happy. And then Owen cut out a heart shaped play-dough for me….
And that is when I broke down…the tears came and I scooted out quick before Owen noticed…..Sean laughed.
Then Sean and I drove back at recess and watched Owen from across the street…and the tears were there too.
